LIFE IS LIKE A GAME OF DODGE-BALL
There’s no getting around the fact that the times we live are challenging to say the least. For most, life feels like a never ending game of dodge ball where each of us are players against life, trying to avoid curveballs flying in every direction, trying our best not get hit but still walking out with bruises and feeling defeated. And just when you think you’ve dodged all balls headed your way, you get busted right in the face unexpectedly.
No wonder we feel exhausted, tired and run down when we are constantly alert of what could be heading our way. Not only that, but we’re trying to persist with existing aches, pains, and bruises already sustained.
The reality though is that we can’t change the game. The rules have already been set out and we don’t have a choice but to participate because we’ve been part of this game of life since birth. Unfair you may ask? Sure. So what do we do? Well… we prepare for battle.
Our bodies have been created by the ultimate Creator. Not to mention, as women, we’ve been given abilities that would break a man. We have the ability to create life, to give when we have nothing, perseverance and resilience to surpass our own expectations. We were born warriors. But just like real warriors we can’t go into battle unprepared.
Getting our bodies in shape does not mean striving for the “perfect body”. Newsflash … THAT SHIT DOES NOT EXIST.
To me, the perfect body is a body that is healthy. No I’m not talking about being skinny because Lord knows you can be skinny and not be healthy. Staying hydrated, active, having the ability to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like you can’t breathe when you get to the top, being able to run around with your kids in the garden, having your organs healthy and thriving, that natural healthy glow; that to me is being healthy. Having the physical capacity to actually participate in this game is crucial to become the ultimate dodge ball champion.
So now you’ve got “the body” but the engine is giving problems. Mental health is like the power up mushroom in Super Mario. Without it, every ball flying our way has the ability of shrinking us and forces us to be less than we are capable of. But with it, we not only grow stronger but we become a force capable to running through obstacles like they are walls of feathers and not bricks. Find ways to recharge yourself mentally. Read a book, or find a hobby, or workout, or hell even paint your nails if that’s what helps you relieve stress, anxiety and depression. Take time for yourself.
Last but not least, keep the faith. This is probably the most important tool a warrior needs. You have to believe you can win any battle. And when you get knocked down, that’s when faith kicks in and picks you up to keep fighting.
Faith does not mean that everything your life is sunshine and daisies, that life is good. It means that you are good, despite it all.

Well said Darcy! Beaurtifully put! #Applause!
Regarding concerns in The Engine Room; I recently read that doing at least three things FOR YOURSELF that you enjoy daily is the best and most consistent form of self-care, viz. soaking in the bath tub, taking an extended lunch break or even (like you said, and which is a personal fave) painting your nails.
Live long and prosper!

Definitely going to adopt this new approach in self-care. We all could use a little more of it
